Learn to wheel-throw ceramics

Term 2 classes

Terms run for 8 weeks and align with school terms. Term 2 begins on 27 April 2026.

Location: Mont Albert Clay, 6 Smythe Avenue, Mont Albert VIC 3127

All levels welcome: Perfect for beginners with no previous experience. Experienced students receive a refresher and can progress at their own pace. More information below about classes and what you will learn.

Class inclusions

  • Students are allocated their own Shimpo pottery wheel for the class duration. 6 students per class

  • White stoneware clay, pottery tools, and a wide range of stoneware glazes and underglazes

  • A firing allowance of up to 2.5kg. Additional firing over your allowance is charged at $18 per kg.

Your finished wheel-thrown creations will be ready to collect 4-5 weeks after the end of term.

What you will learn

Throw simple forms

Prepare clay for the wheel. Learn to throw
objects including cups, vases and bowls.

Trim ceramic objects

Refine wheel-thrown objects. Learn to remove excess clay and create appealing shapes.

Glaze your pieces

Apply colour and texture to your work. A range of stoneware glazes and underglazes.

Try the pottery wheel. Book a wheel taster

Try your hand at the pottery wheel before committing to a full term. In this two hour workshop, we introduce the basic techniques of wheel-throwing. Autumn & winter 2026 taster classes to be confirmed. Sign up to our newsletter for taster updates.
